We began our “program year” on Sunday, September 13. The leadership and laity of our parish have endeavored to keep us all connected and fed the best way possible during this pandemic. I am grateful for their positive and hopeful spirit. Our hope is in Jesus Christ who promises us joy and everlasting life if we follow Him.
Unfortunately, the program year needed to be restructured due to the alarming rise in the COVID infection rates in our state. Where we once had options for online and in-person worship, we were directed to revert back to online worship only. This eliminates much of our robust "COVIDtide" worship schedule. It was a prudent decision on the part of our bishop and the diocesan COVID-19 Task Force.
Ash Wednesday
For our observance of Ash Wednesday, February 17, 2021, we will do some unconventional things to start the season of Lent. The ashes we use on this day are not a sacrament, but they have become an important symbol of this day. We will not elevate them to something they are not, but we want this day to be meaningful within the parameters of the health directives. There is a potential risk of transmitting Covid if a clergy person physically and systematically imposes ashes on everyone’s forehead. To maintain our perfect record of no Covid transmission at church, we will adopt the following schedule.

Ash Wednesday Schedule
- “An Invitation to a Holy Lent.” Early Wednesday morning tune into Facebook for the liturgy for Ash Wednesday, and the blessing of the ashes.
- Drive-by Ashes (weather permitting). On Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., drive up to the great doors of the church and a clergyperson will bring a portion of the blessed ashes to you in your car. Mark your foreheads, if you wish, or keep them as a reminder of Lent and our dependence on God.
- The church will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for prayers. Feel welcome to pray and meditate in the church throughout the day. Ashes will be available to take with you.
